Look for them, check information online -- there's some bug bomb type of stuff but I didn't want to subject birds and babies to it. People have used ‘bribery by treats’ to teach hens to run obstacle courses, do a variety of tricks and even modify some anti-social behaviors. Check for predators; if they appear around the coop, it can cause stress, which in turn may slow egg production. At least, that is what I have been told by folks more experienced than me. You must be referring to those farms that keep the chickens in cages to lay eggs, as 'exploitation'.
